because i am not
i am not from there
where all of you
think us come from
my momma was not from there
but there finds me
everyday in your eyes
you think i rose above there
to sit among you
and you do not see us
in me
but us cannot see me in them either
so i do not blame you

Are you kidding? I think it's very clear...and actually really clever. The "us/here v. them/there" race issue and the way that normative (white) culture thinks it's a revelation when they meet "educated blacks" or "non-ghetto blacks" and say racist BS like, "Oh, you are so articulate/smart/cultured!" (read: FOR A BLACK PERSON). I like the use of dialect to make your point even more hard-hitting. Really nice piece. :+fav:'d!
